Laura Stacey
Player Support & Talent Identification

Laura Stacey first wore the maple leaf as a member of Canada’s National Women’s U18 Team in August 2010. She went on to win silver and gold with the team at the 2011 and 2012 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championships.

Over the next few years, Laura competed internationally with the National Women’s Development Team, which included gold medals at the 2015 and 2016 Nations Cup. But she was also cut from the National Women’s Team four straight years before making her IIHF Women’s World Championship debut in 2017, helping Canada win the silver medal. Those cuts made her truly realize how much she wanted to pursue her dream of playing for Team Canada.

Laura played collegiately at the University of Dartmouth where she was the team’s Rookie of the Year in 2012-13. She captained Dartmouth in her senior year and was the team’s leading scorer as well as MVP, earning her a spot on the Ivy League First All-Star Team. In her final college game, she broke both wrists after being tripped into the boards but was able to avoid surgery. Selected third overall by Brampton in the 2016 CWHL Draft, she went on to be named CWHL Rookie of the Year in 2016-17 after leading all first years in scoring. 11 months after breaking both of her wrists, Laura cracked the senior team for the very first time and made her debut with the senior team at the World Championships in Plymouth MI in 2017. Laura was then centralized shortly after for the 2018 Olympics where she was selected to the roster and brought home an Olympic Silver medal from PyeongChang. Since then, Laura has been a part of the PWHPA (Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association) where she and 250 other professional female hockey players are standing united in attempt to create a viable and sustainable professional women’s hockey league for many years to come. After four tough years of training, in 2022, Laura’s childhood dream was finally realized as she was selected to her second Olympic team and brought home a GOLD medal from the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing!

A little more about Laura:

Getting into the Sport: Started playing hockey at age 4… Her parents enrolled her in a learn-to-skate/figure skating class but she didn’t enjoy it because she wanted to be with the kids playing hockey on a different rink… She eventually convinced her parents to let her play… Her great-grandfather was Hockey Hall of Famer King Clancy… Her great uncle Terry Clancy played for Canada at Innsbruck 1964…

Outside Interests: Graduated from Dartmouth College in 2016… Would like to pursue an MBA and work on the business side of sports… Enjoys playing golf…

Odds and Ends: Started to dream about playing for Team Canada since the first time she saw the Canadian women win gold on TV at Salt Lake City 2002; wanted to one day stand on the blue line with a gold medal around her neck… Has been inspired by Cassie Campbell’s style of play, leadership, and dedication since she was a young child…

Favourite quote: “Good timber does not grow with ease, the stronger the wind the stronger the tree”…In 2018 founded the LS7 Sticks In For Charity Road Hockey Tournament with the mission of giving back to the community and helping young kids get active!

I’ve had a desire to work in the sports management industry for a long time. My hockey background began with gradual success as I played for the North Shore rep team participating in the North American Roller Hockey Championships. As my desire for roller hockey grew I started contacting other rep teams both in the US and worldwide. As a result, I was able to team up with programs in Colorado, San Jose, San Francisco, and Philadelphia.

2017 Venture Prize Competition: SFU Alumni Award

The experience provided me with an opportunity to play for the Canadian National Roller Hockey Team and participate in the 2005 Pan American Championships in Argentina. Upon returning to Vancouver I was contacted by a program out of New Zealand and was offered a season roster spot. In 2006 I had the pleasure of playing and winning a New Zealand National Championship with the Rimutaka Renegades. During that time I also played minor football for the Westside Warriors program in the Vancouver Mainland Football League and ultimately playing for the Carson Graham Eagles in the BC High School Football League. While at Carson Graham we had the success of a Provincial Championship in 2002.

Taking Sports to a Professional Level

Since returning to Vancouver I have focused on my business career and attained my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Simon Fraser University. My desire to work in the sports management industry has progressed with the creation of CKM Sports Management.  In November of 2012 the company was named runner up for SFU Entrepreneur of the Year.

Over the past 8 years I’ve focused on understanding the needs of both players and organizations at the NHL, AHL, and international levels. I’m honored I’ve been able to meet and work with some of the best hockey players in the world, and continue to do so.

During this time, players at all levels have shown me that the support available from the majority of agents or agency is largely one dimensional. This is specifically why both as an agent and organization we strive to use the most cutting edge tools to support our Clients.

It’s our goal to work with the best players in the world while continuing to understand the multiple opportunities in professional hockey; while at the same time executing best practices for contractually and strategically with our players careers.

Lee Goren
Pro Consultant- NHL Alumni

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba my first pair of shoes had blades on them. In 1995, I left home at the age of 17 to play junior hockey with the Minot Top Guns of the SJHL. While playing for the Top Guns, the University of North Dakota offered me a hockey scholarship. For the next four years, I attended the University and played Division I varsity hockey. Our team won 2 NCAA championships, 3 Western Collegiate Hockey Association championships, and 2 McNaughton Cups. In my senior year, I lead all Division I NCAA players in goals scored (34), was named the MVP of the Frozen Four, and was selected as an All-American. I graduated with honors from the University of North Dakota and was designated as North Dakota’s male athlete of the year.

It was after my freshman year at UND, that the Boston Bruins drafted me in the 3rd round of the NHL entry draft.  Following my graduation in 2000, and our second National Championship season, I signed my first professional contract with the Bruins. During the seven seasons that followed, I played in the NHL for the Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers, and Vancouver Canucks.  During that time I also played in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins, San Antonio Rampage and the Manitoba Moose.

University_of_North_Dakota_logo_-_interlocking_ND.svgThe next 6 years were spent in Europe playing in the top divisions in Sweden (SHL), Switzerland (NLA), Finland (SM-Liiga) and Germany (DEL).  Having played over 900 professional hockey games in 13 seasons, I retired from hockey in May of 2013.

My playing career became a coaching career.  First as an assistant coach at St. Olaf College for the 2013-2014 season and then in my current position as the Vice President of Hockey Operations and the U18 Head Hockey Coach for the B.E. Emerson Prep Academy in North St. Paul, Minnesota.

Hockey and family are my lifelong passions. They provide direction and purpose to my life. Many of my most significant professional and personal associations are within the hockey community. My wife, Angie, and I were married in July 2001. We have 2 sons that share my passion for hockey, Oliver (2007) and Lincoln (2010).
