Manuel Wiederer was born on November 21, 1996 in Deggendorf, Germany. Over in Germany he played in the professional Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) for a season, before coming to Canada. He left Germany as the youngest player in the German professional league, and arrived in Canada to play for the QMJHL Moncton Wildcats back in his age group.
Wiederer has some very unique skills, and his development is further ahead than some of his competitors, due to playing in the German Men’s league. He did have to adjust to North America’s style of hockey, but playing alongside top CHL scorer Conor Garland, he was quickly brought up to speed and developed great chemistry with Garland. His season with the Moncton Wildcats saw him post 41 goals and 80 points in 71 games played.
Wiederer has not been ranked by the NHL Central Scouting because it is too difficult to compare him to fellow draft prospects, because of his age and development overseas. However, due to his previous experience and great performance in the QMJHL, he has been projected to be drafted in this Friday’s 2016 NHL draft.
